The NYRE is an annual television special broadcast by ABC on New Year's Eve. The show was recorded in New York City's Times Square, where many pop stars performed live, and featured the annual ball drop from Times Square ball.

Entertainer Dick Clark, who named, conceived and created the New Year's Rockin' Eve as a competitor to CBS’s New Year's Eve big band broadcasts. The first two editions of NYRE were broadcast by NBC in 1973 to 1974, with Dick Clark assuming the role of a reporter. After 1974, the program began airing on ABC, since then, Dick Clark hosts the show officially. 

With the death of Guy Lombard and the decline of his New Year's eve program, Dick Clark’s New Year's Eve is gaining popularity. To date, New Year's Eve has become the most watched New Year's Eve special on any major U.S. network.

After Clark's death on April 18, 2012, the show has been co-hosted by Seacrest, McCarthy and Fergie to this day.

The New Year’s Eve’ live will have performances by headliners like Jennifer Lopez, Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmie Allen, and Machine Gun Kelly, as well as Nelly, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Ella Mai and Maluma.
